100-Year-Old Man Breaks Athletic Records0Don Pellmann, who is 100 years old, made a new world record in five different sports at the San Diego Senior Olympics. Pellmann was the oldest athlete in the Senior Olympics. He became the first senior to break 27 seconds in the 100-m dash race. He also set records in the high jump, long jump, shot put, and discus events.
Pellmann is the oldest participant ever in the Senior Olympics. After the games concluded, he said, “It was a tough fight, but I managed it.” Pellmann was a gymnast and high jumper in his youth, but stopped pursuing athletics during the Great Depression in the 1930s, when economic times were tough.
100-Year-Old Man Breaks Athletic Records2After raising his children, Pellmann retired from a General Electric company affiliate. However, at his child’s suggestion, he participated in the games. The New York Times reported that Pellmann’s untiring demeanor served as a model for other athletes and volunteers.
